Parallelomma
General description:
There is controversy over whether or not P. paridis and P. vittatum are distinct species. Collin (1958)[1] separated the two species (placed in the genus Americina Malloch) and they were listed so in Kloet & Hincks (1976)[2] (in Parallelomma). Šifner (1978)[3] synonymised P. paridis, but this was not accepted by Gorodkov (1986)[4] and the species was reinstated by Nelson (1990)[5], but Šifner (1995)[6] reaffirmed the synonymy. Chandler (1998)[7] accepts Nelson's interpretation, which is followed here. Nelson (1990)[5] showed that the biology of the two are different, but that they show little morphological distinction although the characters given by Collin served to reliably separate his reared adults.
